Amy Beth Katz & Kira Weiss Recipients of 2022 Tikkum Olam Award -- Repair of the World

Repair of the world

What is Tikkun Olam? It is Hebrew for "Repair of the World": "Few Hebrew idioms are so well known in the American Jewish community as “Tikkun Olam”, “repair of the world.” The term is understood in modern America as the idea that Jews are called upon to make the world more just, peaceful, tolerant, and equal, through acts of charity, kindness, and political action." (Wikipedia, 2022) On June 17, 2022, Congregation B'nai B'rith of Santa Barbara honored Amy & Kira's leadership in assisting the homeless and unsheltered in Santa Barbara County during the height of the Covid 19- Pandemic, as they oversaw the cooking and serving of weekly meals and the collection and distribution of clothing and other necessities in 2020-2021, advocated for their needs to the city and non-profits and CBB, and collaborated with dozens of organizations to improve quality of life and help with both survival and spiritual needs.
